Saddlebacks

Wessex SaddlebackSaddlebacks are a rare Breed (see http://www.rbst.org.uk/watch-list/pigs.php )

We are members of the British Saddleback breeders club and hope to play our part in restoring the population to safe levels.

Saddlebacks are descended from the local breed the Wessex saddleback and are hardy and suited to the smallholder. We love them. We have a resident boar and are happy to discuss his serving sows. He is from the Golden Arrow line out of Dinah. We also have a Hilda weaner. She is from a rare line and we plan to breed from her next year when she is old enough.

Our current herd consists of Coomber Silver Wings 12, Prestcombe Golden Arrow 3, Prestcombe Dinah 68 and Sarum Octavia 25.

We plan to purchase further gilts and breed regularly as our resources permit. Our plan is to have one pure and one cross bred litter each month. As we increase towards this we will have weaners , pork, bacon , sausages and pure bred pork for sale.

We have some free range pork available to sell locally. You can reserve some from the next batch by completing our form. Smacombe Farm Pork Order Form Our pork is all free range and outdoor reared .

We have discovered a real community of pig farmers who have given us a great deal of support in our attempts to help the breed and earn a little money. We really appreciate their support.

To ensure the quality of our free range pork we ensure that the animals have the space to run and play as well as the essentials - food , water and shelter. We plan to have another piggycam so you can see the happy pigs playing and enjoying life.
